Work directly with faculty to identify, prepare, and submit proposals to NIH and other non/federal sponsors and ensures timely submission of required annual reports, continuation applications, just-in-time submissions, no-cost extensions or other administrative changes.
Work directly with the PI to develop proposal budgets and reconcile award budgets in accordance with the needs of the research plan, agency, and University requirements. Gather needed documentation and manages the execution of sub-awards, sponsored consulting agreements, amendments, material transfer agreements, and data use agreements.
Serve as the primary pre-award contact for administrators outside of the department, attend institutional meetings that focus on grants management, establish and maintain appropriate working relationships internally and externally.
Responsible for the direct supervision of a coordinator and activities submitted by center/institute administrative teams, including establishing annual performance goals, allocating resources, and assessing annual performance.
Ensures service and communication to PIs, standardized information, best practices development, and that all faculty and research staff are aware of any new grant policies and changes.
Analyzes industry trends and remains current with agency and regulatory changes. Monitors department/ unit compliance with University, Divisional and Department policies and procedures and implements corrective actions for issues identified.
Performs other related work as needed.
Experience with submission of NIH grant proposals.Â
Experience with preparing large, multi-site grant budgets.Â
Knowledge of Federal Circulars applicable to universities (OMB A-21, A-110, A-133 or the Uniform Guidance) or interpretation of similar regulations.
Ability to analyze, interpret and implement University policy and procedures and sponsor guidelines and regulations to ensure accurate response.
Ability to keep abreast of NIH policy updates and implement changes accordingly.
Ability to work successfully with University students, faculty, and staff.
Ability to have rapid proficiency in University of Chicago systems (i.e. AURA and Business Objects) and a high level of proficiency in Excel.Â
