The University of Michigan Injury Prevention Center is seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to assist in coordination of a near real-time opioid overdose surveillance monitoring system in partnership with many public health, public safety, state, and local partners. The project includes working with partners to develop end user experiences, user interfaces, collaborating with medical examiners to acquire fatal overdose data, navigating legal documentation and complexities, and public health evaluation and impact reports.
* Assists in the coordination of the System for Opioid Overdose Surveillance (SOS) under general direction of the SOS project manager.
* Collaborates in the development and design of the SOS pilot projects according to plans developed by the SOS leadership team.
* Collaborates with medical examiner office’s in order to acquire fatal overdose data.
* Acts as a liaison between the Injury Prevention Center team and the numerous public health and public safety partners.
* Performs qualitative data analysis for the many SOS pilot projects. Provides drafts of summary reports.
* Manages electronic surveys using the survey software, Qualtrics, including creating surveys, exporting data, analyzing results and drafting data reports.
* Creates and maintains regulatory management files, including institutional review and reporting requirements.
* Conducts literature reviews.
* Formulates research methods and suggests options for improving quality; identifies potential problems, recommends and implements solutions.
* Conducts data collection and verification.
* Performs data analysis and interprets results.
* Presents/co-presents with leadership team at meetings and conferences; assists in acquiring funding including writing grant proposals.
* Master’s Degree in public health, social work, or related field.
* 1-3 years of relevant work experience in surveillance systems, community based research, or qualitative interviewing.
* Ability to travel throughout the state to meet with program partners independently in both urban and rural settings statewide.
* Professional demeanor and excellent interpersonal skills.
* Strong technical writing and verbal/public speaking communication skills.
* Ability to build and maintain relationships with community, administrative, and state partners.
* Ability to work and communicate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
Please note this is a 100% effort, 1-year term limited position with the potential for renewal depending upon success in the role and availability of funding. At the end of the term, the appointment will terminate and will not be eligible for Reduction in Force (RIF) benefits.
