JOB SUMMARY: Plans, budgets, directs, and administers the functions of the Environmental Services Department; establishes policies, procedures, objectives and work standards. Maintains quality control and compliance with regulatory requirements.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required. Bachelors degree or equivalent preferred with 3-5 years supervisory experience. Special training in housekeeping or institutional management, or equivalent experience.
JOB KNOWLEDGE: Knowledge of hospital operation and specific kinds of housekeeping required for various departments. Thorough knowledge of housekeeping equipment, supplies, chemicals, and agents. Management/supervisory skills.
ABILITIES, INTERESTS AND TEMPERAMENTS:
Verbal ability is needed to comprehend and communicate with Housekeeping personnel and to prepare reports in concise, understandable language.
Numerical ability is required to perform arithmetic operations in keeping work records, preparing budgets, in requisitioning supplies, and in preparing and balancing workloads.
Clerical ability is needed to keep departmental records in good order.
A preference for working with people to supervise, instruct, and maintain harmony among workers, and to coordinate housekeeping activities with those of other departments.
A preference for activities resulting in the satisfaction of maintaining the hospital in a clean, orderly, attractive and safe condition.
Ability to direct, control and plan the total activity of the entire Housekeeping department.
Able to communicate with people beyond giving instructions as in coordinating activities with other Department Leaders and staff.
Must have the ability to work with a variety of patients of all populations (e.g. cultural diversity, ages from infant through geriatrics, hearing impaired, physical and mental disabilities, and variety of educational and cognitive levels).
