The Executive Director reports to the Director of the Robert Mondavi Institute, a unit within the College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences, composed of 15 departments, with 500 academic faculty appointees, and 1500 staff positions. The ED facilitates research support on Olive related projects amongst the College staff as well as other academic units, and helps the industry access campus resources.
The UC Davis Olive Center is a world-renowned, self-funded university/industry coalition that brings together nearly 60 UC faculty members, research specialists and farm advisors to address the research and educational needs of California olive growers and processors. Its mission is to mobilize the research, educational and outreach resources of the University of California, in partnership with the olive industry, to facilitate best practices, discover and commercialize new methods and technologies for agricultural and consumer benefit, and serve as the nation's most authoritative 'voice' on anything olives.

Responsibilities The Executive Director holds administrative and management responsibilities for all research, education, and outreach activities of the Olive Center, including budgetary development and oversight, administration of all personnel, and programmatic development.
Basic knowledge of the olive industry.
Experience in identifying, cultivating and stewarding philanthropic support, from foundations, corporations, individuals or related grant opportunities.
Experience in developing and managing successful team projects, preferably including industry, academic, and regulatory agencies.
Experience bringing together diverse populations through creativity, initiative and open-mindedness.
Experience communicating with and to diverse audiences, including presenting technical information at a level appropriate to the audience.
Experience administering a program or business unit, including financial stewardship.
Demonstrated skill in advocating for and serving as an ambassador for a brand or service line.
Possession of an advanced degree that would facilitate business management of a self-supporting center and artisan business.
Working in or with an academic or non-profit setting.
Basic knowledge of growing olives or similar crops.
Experience building or evaluating educational/outreach programs.
Experience in the planning, development or evaluation of research programs.
Experience articulating an inspirational vision to large and small audiences.
