This position will support the research goals of the Departments of Urology and Dermatology at OHSU.
As an extension of our pursuit of excellence in urologic patient care, the Department of Urology is committed to continuing research to develop new treatments for urologic conditions and improve the patient experience. As members of an educational institution, our faculty members are enabled to generate research projects based off of their clinical experiences, and develop their interests in respective subspecialties. Our doctors have contributed to many innovative discoveries in the fields of male infertility, renal transplantation, urolithiasis, urologic oncology, and robotic and minimally invasive surgery, and several have been awarded grants to further their work.
As part of our department vision, OHSU Dermatology is dedicated to freeing the world of human suffering caused by disorders of the skin. As such, we have made a commitment to aggressively pursue any improvements in patient care, treatment options, and disease prevention through research.
From our basic science laboratories, to translational research, to clinical trials, OHSU Dermatology implements a true bench-to-bedside approach at finding, and implementing advancements to skin health.
We are seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented research assistant to aid in the collection, transport, and storage of biological samples and data. This position will support projects directed by urologic oncology providers, as well as Rajan Kulkarni, M.D., PhD., in Dermatology.
Primary duties include obtaining medical records, subject screening using electronic medical records systems, obtaining research consent from human subjects, facilitating the collection of human samples in the outpatient setting and operating room, basic sample processing, contacting patients for research data collection, patient data entry, abstracting patient data from medical records, assisting in the maintenance of regulatory documents, and communicating with associates in other departments.
Bachelor's Degree; OR Associate's Degree and 3 years of relevant experience
Basic clinical research knowledge
Basic knoweldge of medical terminology
Proficiency with MS Office Suite
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently as well as in a team environment
Excellent attention to detail, organization, and time management skills; self-starter
Ability to become Phlebotomy certified within first 6 months
Bachelors Degree in Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or other Science
1 year of research experience
Previous experience working in clinical environment
Working knowledge of clinical research data management activities
Database maintenance experience, fluency with electronic medical record program
