The Senior Safety Specialist Radiation/Laser Safety Officer (RSO/LSO) is responsible for administering the radiation and laser safety programs at University of Texas at Dallas. The Senior Safety Specialist RSO/LSO will interface with and direct Research Safety staff, investigators, and laboratory workers in matters of radiation/laser safety and compliance. This position provides safety evaluation and hazard assessment services, and facilitates comprehensive laser safety and radiation protection support in research, teaching and waste management to ensure conformance with federal, state and local laws and regulations, as well as broad scope license conditions, and University policies and procedures. The Senior Safety Specialist RSO/LSO prepares and provides timely safety evaluation reports and assists in and monitors corrective actions, as necessary. Responsibilities include advising Principal Investigators and laboratory personnel on safety review findings, and providing appropriate recommendations based on regulatory compliance and best practices. The Senior Safety Specialist RSO/LSO must be able to develop and maintain strong collaborative and professional relationships with researchers and other University support personnel while actively promoting a culture of safety.
- MS in STEM Field - Five or more years of academic research support or research safety experience or a combination of education and experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's degree in a relevant scientific field.
5-7 years of health physics experience.
Advanced university degree in health physics or related discipline.
Experience in research in an academic setting.
Radiation and Laser safety training and certifications.
