Provides oversight and coordination of the University's Operational Risk Management program. Develops and manages a system-wide framework to identify, understand, assess, manage, mitigate and monitor key risk challenges.
1. Provide traditional risk management services for the University, including, physical risks, safety risks, facilities risks, and other risk areas. 2. Responsible for direct risk management of some traditional risks, including development and implementation of risk mitigation plans. 3. Responsible for oversight of risk mitigation plans across campus. 4. Serve as chair of the University Risk Management and Safety Committee. 5. Participate in development of University's ERM plan. 6. Lead University efforts to identify and prioritize potential risk vulnerabilities. 7. Develop and implement corrective action plans for risk reduction and mitigation. 8. Identify and communicate strategies, goals, and objectives as well as a strategic vision that effectively manages and mitigates risk. 9. Develop/maintain university relationships to promote Risk Management efforts. 10. Provide support/guidance to functional risk management areas. 11. Provide reports on a regular basis to the Director of the Office of Risk Management, Ethics, and Compliance. 12. Oversee and assist in managing insurance claims, claims monitoring and coverage issues. 13. Perform related duties as assigned.
Bachelor's degree in a related field. Five years' experience in traditional or operational risk management, organizational risk and safety, or related field.
Master's Degree in related field Experience with insurance claims and claims monitoring Experience with federal and state law and regulations related to health and safety
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. 2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the University community. 3. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors. 4. Ability to effectively speak before large groups. 5. High level analytical skills to anticipate trends, issues, and challenges. 6. Ability to multi-task and remain flexible in an environment with competing demands. 7. Ability to build consensus among internal constituencies for communication efforts. 8. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. 9. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical information and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
Working Conditions and Physical Effort
* No unusual physical requirements. Requires no heavy lifting, and nearly all work is performed in a comfortable indoor facility. * Frequent - Externally imposed deadlines; set and revised beyond one's control; interruptions influence priorities; difficult to anticipate nature or volume of work with certainty beyond a few days; meeting of deadlines and coordination of related activities are key to position. * Job frequently requires walking, sitting, reaching, talking, hearing, handling objects with hands. * Job requires standing, stooping/kneeling/crouching/crawling, and lifting up to 10 pounds. * Job requires use of computer keyboard in the performance of duties. * Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically.
