Summary of Essential Functions:

• Assist with the day-to-day operations and maintenance of the Form and Space Studio, ensuring that all equipment operates effectively and safely, and supplies are stocked and available.
• Assist with daily deep cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and tools following CDC guidance, OSHA guidance and manufacturer instructions.
• Assist with supervising student homework access to the Form and Space Studio and monitoring campus public health and safety measures, including physical distancing, face coverings, personal protective equipment, personal hygiene and surface cleaning.
• Serve as an educational resource, and support Undergraduate students regarding related processes of Form and Space.
• Provide assistance to the Form and Space Studio Manager. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

• Assist with maintaining Environmental Health and Safety compliance, conducting EHS training for MICA employees working in the Academic Services Fabrication Studios, maintaining required EHS documentation, enforcing EHS policies, modeling safe studio practices, and generally ensuring safety
• Provide technical support to students in the Form and Space Studio

• Assist with monitoring and maintaining equipment in the Form and Space Studio
• Enforce studio policies and demonstrate the safe and appropriate use of equipment, tools, materials, techniques, and processes in the Form and Space Studio
• Provide assistance and guidance to any Form and Space Studio student workers (student technicians and/or work-study)
• Contribute to tutorials for processes and techniques used in the Form and Space Studio
• Help maintain supplies for the Form and Space Studio by communicating with the Studio Manager
• Share research to enhance the Form and Space Studio and classes held therein.
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Practical working experience with sculptural processes and techniques for digital and mechanical tools and equipment.
• Good mechanical sensibility 

• Ability to assess and trouble-shoot digital and mechanical tools and equipment 

• Strong organizational skills 

• Ability to collaborate with students and faculty 

• Good communication skills

Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor, Fine Art or a four-year degree with experience working in a fabrication/sculpture shop
• Demonstrated experience with fabrication safety and operating woodworking equipment and processes.
• Required to lift, pull and carry, up to 45 lbs.

Preferred qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience working with the Adobe suite
• Demonstrated experience working with, troubleshooting, and basic maintenance of general woodworking equipment.
• Demonstrated experience working as a technician in a sculpture / fabrication shop preferably in an academic environment

Experience working with the following: 


• Wood working equipment to include; bandsaw, drill press, stationary sander as well as portable power hand tools, drill, sanders, jig saw.
• Skills in plaster casting and mold making.
• Skills in digital fabrication tools such as; 3d printers and small scale CNC routers.
• Skills in digital fabrication software and/or sewing machines

Reporting to this position:

• No direct reports

Conditions of Employment:

• Candidate must successfully complete a full background check
• Required to work evenings and weekends
• Required to perform deep cleaning and disinfecting of shop equipment and tools
