Position Summary: Rapidly growing independent dermatopathology practice with new state-of-the-art histology laboratory has an immediate need for a Laboratory Manager. This is a diverse position with broad responsibilities including the overall operation of the histology laboratory, staffing, inventory management and daily laboratory workflow and output. Shall uphold all laboratory licensure, CAP, CLIA, HIPAA, accreditation, certification, safety and compliance regulations and requirements. Offers support for the goals of the laboratory, the company and is detail-oriented. Shall provide assistance in other duties as required by pathologists or COO.
Overall responsibility for laboratory operation and output
Plans, organizes and delegates work to ensure slides are produced with the highest quality and are turned out to the pathologists in a timely manner.
Recognizes and takes appropriate actions to solve interdepartmental problems with a goal of ensuring the efficiency of operation within the department
Observes and reviews work to assure that workload is completed with accuracy, quality and established protocols.
Updates procedures and practices to improve accuracy and efficiency when quality improvement results necessitate.
Responsible for proper implementation, documentation and maintenance of quality control protocol and instrument maintenance ensuring compliance with requirements by external regulatory agencies.
Effectively schedules laboratory personnel shifts to adequately staff lab for most efficient and quality operation.
Guides and advises subordinates in problem resolution through effective leadership, counseling and listening skills.
Responsible for the effective utilization of personnel; assesses and evaluates employee performance and is responsible for ensuring the training and competence of established and new employees.
Maintains efficiency of operation through proper staffing, scheduling of personnel and work assignments, keeping overtime within controllable limits.
Monitors and evaluates employee performance; counsels and takes disciplinary action when performance and standards of behavior are not met.
Completes annual employee performance reviews in a timely manner and maintains employee performance records; ensures employees understand their job functions.
Oversees general operations of the lab including but not limited to: compliance with all licensure, accreditation and regulatory requirements; maintenance of laboratory equipment; quality control of equipment; supply ordering; assisting with inspections; and other such duties as assigned by the pathologists or COO.
Ensures that lab supply ordering is handled efficiently and in a cost-effective manner.
Responsible for any and all additional job tasks, duties and obligations as the pathologists and COO may assign or request from time-to-time.
HT or HTL Certification Required
At least two years of management experience required
Minimum five years of histology laboratory experience required
Bachelor’s degree in science or a related discipline preferred
