EHS Specialist (2001341) - Battle Creek, MI
Where the Chemistry Happens
The role of the Environmental, Health and Safety Specialist, Battle Creek is part of the Joint Venture BASF TODA America LLC (BTA) reporting to the Chief Operating Officer of BTA. In this role, you will lead the Industrial Hygiene EHS programs at the Battle Creek and Elyria Battery Materials plants. Other responsibilities include developing and updating the Site Occupational Exposure Assessment, serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the plants. This includes managing the Personal Protective Equipment programs and respiratory protection programs. Lastly, you will develop and provide training and communication relating to these programs.
In addition to the technical aspects of this role, you will have strong leadership and change management capabilities that can be viewed as exemplary for the continued development of the team.
Certified Industrial Hygienist or Certified Safety Professional credential is preferred, but not required.

Leveraging your education in Occupational Safety & Health, Industrial Hygiene or Science and your EHS experience in a manufacturing environment of either the chemical industry or battery industry, you will provide EHS leadership at the site to prioritize EHS issues and opportunities. You will also develop action plans to reduce EHS risks and improve EHS performance & culture.
Using your experience with using industrial hygiene practices to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace conditions that may cause workers' injury or illness , you will provide technical and regulatory expertise to ensure occupational safety and environmental compliance as part of a zero-incident mindset.
Applying your experience in the specialist area of Industrial Hygiene, you will drive the implementation of BASF's Responsible Care(r) Management Systems (RCMS) including, but not limited to, Control of Hazardous Energy - Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Hot Work, Fall Protection, Powered Industrial Trucks, Hazard Communication, and Emergency Planning and Response.
Demonstrating your experience using environmental monitoring and analytical methods to detect the extent of worker exposure and employing engineering, work practice controls, and other methods to control potential health hazards, you will perform exposure assessments, including exposure and hazard evaluation, as well as control solutions for chemical agents, biological agents and physical stress agents (e.g., occupational noise).
Your unwavering commitment to compliance will be evident as you will be responsible for data interpretation, data communication (monitoring reports and control recommendation), and regulatory compliance relating to occupational health and safety.
Your seasoned computer (ex. Spreadsheets, word processing, database management) and presentation skills will serve you well as you prepare training materials and deliver training for various occupational safety & industrial hygiene topics.
Your strong leadership skills and your ability to effectively coach others will be essential as you provide EHS leadership to support BTA's ISO programs.
