Summary: Under the direct supervision of the Director, plans and organizes assigned activities of the Physician Services Office, and is specifically responsible for the credentialing function. Duties and Responsibilities: Essential Functions:
Manages, coordinates and implements the reappointment processes for all medical staff providers and requests for privileges. Provides a review to determine whether a practitioner is qualified and competent for medical staff membership and/or privileges. Assures processes and files are in compliance with The Joint Commission (TJC) standards and federal and state regulations.
With the Director, participates in TJC preparation and TJC and other regulatory agency interviews regarding the credentialing and reappointment processes.
Works with Central Verification Office and other Medical Staff Office to establish policies, procedures and system utilization.
Works with Credentials Committee, the Medical Executive Committee, the Chief Medical Officer, General Counsel, and other Inova Medical Staff Offices to credential new practitioners and resolve credentialing issues.
Reviews and recommends updates to Medical Staff Department(s) for delineation of privileges, rules and regulations and policies to maintain compliance with TJC standards and federal and state regulations. Facilitates Medical Staff Department to establish core privileges.
Schedules Credentialing reviews and interviews (as needed) with Department Chairs.
Supports the Credentialing Committee in the preparation of meetings agendas, minutes.
Communicates credentialing decisions made CVO, IT, Clinical Hospital Staff, IFOH Departments, and System Departments.
Assists in data-gathering cycles for OPPE (Ongoing Professional Practice Evaluation) and FPPE (Focused Professional Practice Evaluation) for all credentialed practitioners in order to comply with TJC standards.
Provides administrative support to the Chief Medical Officer and Medical Staff President as requested.
Supports other Medical Staff committees or department meetings as necessary when requested by the Department Administrator.
Creates and distributes reports requested by the Inova Health System, departments at IFOH and/or physician offices.
Works to establish and maintain the Medical Staff Office credentialing and reappointment policies and standard operating procedures for IFOH via the system-wide Medical Staff Services and the Director of Medical Staff Services.
Actively participates in the Inova Health System Medical Staff and Credentialing initiatives including the establishment of Centralized Credentialing and the ongoing development and process improvement initiatives.
Maintains the computerized credentialing system (MSOW). Communicates all updates to the Centralized Credentialing office regarding office addresses, board certification, licensure, malpractice insurance, and demographic information for each member of the medical staff. Responsible for entering and modifying privileges into the MSOW system.
Manages the temporary privileges, private first surgical assist, and observership applications.
Processes requests for verification of physician credentials from other hospitals, institutions and managed care companies when they are unable to access the Primary Source Verification module from MSOW.
Responsible for the creation and maintenance of the ED Call Schedule and any notifications that are necessary.
Responds to inquiries from physician offices, hospital departments, and the community at-large when necessary, maintaining the integrity and privacy of the physician records.
