The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience as an exemplary physician leader and clinician in an outpatient surgical specialty setting, preferably ophthalmology.
The incoming CMO will be an influential, collaborative, ethical, and dynamic leader with excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, organizational, motivational, and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record and substantial expertise in promoting clinical excellence, engagement and leadership of physicians, performance management, clinical pathways, quality measures, patient satisfaction measurement/improvement, compliance, and strategic planning.

The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer and is responsible and accountable for ensuring the effectiveness of Medical Staff in delivering high quality ophthalmology services in a collaborative and collegial manner. The CMO plays a key role in the development and implementation of a strategic vision through supporting an organizational culture that fosters cooperation and harmonious relations between the Central Business Office (CBO) and the care centers, their employees, management and medical staff. The CMO guides the coordination, integration and standardization of clinical activities which are designed to meet the stated mission of the organization while optimizing operations across all entities within PRISM Vision Group (PVG).
MD or DO and active NJ Medical License. Must be Board Certified.
Minimum of 2-5 years of leadership experience is preferred particularly leading a large physician organization within the Ophthalmology space Experience with quality indicators and improvement
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Promote effective communications among the medical staff
Demonstrate collegial attitude while working with colleagues and other affiliates
Exemplify and promote PVG’s mission, vision and core values
Ensure the provision of high-quality medical care throughout PVG
Oversee and develop department heads that oversee and develop the physician staff
Provide direction, mentoring and assistance to physicians to ensure high quality of care is provided in a collaborative and professional manner within each care center
Recognize and act upon opportunities for performance improvement
Oversee the process by which practitioner issues related to professional conduct that are deemed to be lower than the standard of expected operations of PVG and develop and implement corrective action. Manage overall performance management process for all physicians
Collaborate with HR on the recruitment of new physicians and surgeons
Coordinate new physician orientation and onboarding
Collaborate with other leaders on integration activities
Attend the Board of Director meetings
Serve as a member of the Executive Management Team and represent the Medical Staff at these meetings
Engage in strategic planning and management action plan development
Attend Physician Advisory Council (PAC) meetings
Leads the development of clinical guidelines, care pathways and disease management in conjunction with the PAC Committee Chairs
Oversee the coordination of Medical Staff Education
Partner with Head of Compliance to manage all issues related to risk
Assure compliance of Physicians with all associated regulatory standards
Report risk management and safety issues promptly
Provide regular reporting to the executive staff on performance and quality issues
Promote and guide physician performance in advanced payer contracting initiatives and value-based contracts
Develop effective interaction and collaboration with nursing and other clinical professionals within the practice
Participate in development of disaster plan and ensures medical staff participation in disaster drills
Other duties as assigned
