Optimus seeks an organized, detail oriented Mechanical Engineering Associate based in Pittsburgh, PA, or the Southern Tier of New York State. There are some travel requirements as the work includes preliminary on-site data gathering as part of the design & engineering process.
The position will require significant collaboration with other electrical & mechanical engineering team members, as well as working closely with our hands-on mechanical technicians to support our customers implementation of the Vector technology in fleet applications.

Design and development of a variety of Vector system components through system implementation and manufacturing & production.
Utilize OEM & internally developed data to incorporate into component design.
Coordinate and exchange technical information with other engineers.
Use critical thinking to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
Participate in design review meetings and conference calls with manufacturers, subcontractors, and vendors.
Review & confirm vendor drawings to ensure proper design specifications prior to production.
Complete all project and design documentation for inclusion with installation manuals & product materials.
Read, interpret, & utilize appropriate technical drawings, schematics, electrical diagrams, and manuals to complete component design.
Become familiar with all the Vector systems, including the various electronic, software, hardware & mechanical components.
Research technical issues utilizing both internal & external information and resources.
Assist with various Vector system component assembly & manufacturing and product testing.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university required.
1-3 years of mechanical engineering experience required, experience in an industrial product design & manufacturing company a plus.
Aptitude for mechanical and electrical systems preferred, heavy-duty diesel engine knowledge a plus.
Ability to comprehend detailed product schematics & documentation.
Proficient computer skills, especially with AutoDesk AutoCAD and Inventor, and the ability to learn additional software applications as necessary.
Demonstrated strong written & verbal communication skills with the ability & willingness to work with other team members to solve problems.
Proven ability to work independently and under pressure with little or no supervision when necessary.
Detail-oriented with good organizational skills in prioritizing, scheduling, and time management.
Must be able to thrive in a fast-paced, team oriented, new product development environment.

Possible exposure to outdoor, warehouse & shop working conditions.
Ability to work around a variety of particulates, lubricants, & chemicals.
Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
