The primary role of this staff position within the School of Nursing is to assist faculty in the development, implementation, integration, and evaluation of simulation activities. The Simulation Expert, as part of a team of Registered Nurses employed in the Nursing Interventions Laboratory (NIL), provides instructional support in the simulation lab for students and faculty to improve competencies and skills in meeting course objectives through simulation. This is a full time, 10 month position (August 1-May 31).
Educates faculty, professional staff and students in selected technical aspects of simulation.
Coordinates simulation activities for each nursing course, as requested by course faculty.
Develops and conducts evaluation of the effectiveness of providing simulation learning.
Operates and programs simulation equipment for simulation sessions.
Participates in evaluation of student performance in relationship to nursing intervention instructional modules.
Remains current on developments in the field of simulation technology and learning theory. Maintains current skills with emphasis on continuing education in simulation specialty.
Provides annual report of simulations to the Director of the School of Nursing for long-range planning for the use of simulation in nursing education.
Maintains and updates simulation lab to include identification of software, supply and equipment needs; monitors simulation equipment; troubleshoots and participates in the resolution of simulation problems.
In consultation with the Nursing Interventions Lab Coordinator, serves as a liaison between the simulation center and the manufacturer of the simulator and other simulation centers.
Maintains records of all simulation activities and checklists of all simulation equipment.
Collaborates with the Laboratory Coordinator and maintains presence in the NIL when the Coordinator is not available. May include evenings and weekends as determined by professional staff.
MSN with minimum of two years in acute care setting.
Theoretical knowledge and clinical expertise with simulations and computer assisted learning.
Experience with high fidelity simulation.
Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
