Supervises activities related to materials management in terms of establishing procedures for the daily execution of duties for procurement, storage, inventory control and distribution of materials to meet Company objectives and customer requirements in a safe effective manner. Manages supply chain; inventory control, small parcel logistics, product receiving and purchasing activities; as well as direct procurement responsibility for designated commodities, for assigned business unit(s).
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Supervises the purchasing and contracting for designated materials, supplies, equipment and services for the operations. Investigates and solves problems related to materials and material shortages to avoid interruptions to the production flow. Develops and maintains documentation to support established business processes.
Establishes and maintains purchasing practices and policies to ensure honest, fair and ethical relationships with vendors. Keeps informed on legal matters that affect purchasing policies
Evaluates and recommends changes in inventory, purchasing and supply chain processes and policies to support improved operational efficiencies. Ensures compliance with all practices and procedures in connection with all Materials Department functions
Define and manage inventory policies and practices, including demand flow and vendor managed inventory. Leads a focused effort to utilize inventory in a manner that maximizes return on assets while providing adequate supply to meet forecast demands
Maintains optimum inventory levels to ensure on-time deliveries to meet customer requirements while minimizing carrying costs and premium transportation charges. Responsible for the proper phase-out programs and initiating and processing the resulting obsolescence and termination claims
Works with Corporate and site supply chain team to identify opportunities to develop strategic sources and strategies that focus on reducing total supply chain cycle time and material costs.
Support programs to identify new materials, suppliers and processes to achieve the best possible quality, reliability, prices, continuity and delivery. Keeps abreast of materials and materials pricing trends.
Implement audit processes to ensure defined processes are effective and maintained. Establishes procedures and supervises the annual physical inventory. This includes the taking and valuing of the year-end physical inventory
Functions as a knowledge expert and coach for business unit materials related issues.
Coordinates with production control planning and scheduling to ensure materials are available when needed
Coordinates with shipping and receiving functions to keep them informed and assist with problems
Assists with the development of departmental budgets including required inventory levels to support the overall site(s) budget
Responsible for the staffing, motivation and development of subordinates to optimize their performance and their professional growth. Improves internal department performance in the areas of quality, cost, delivery and lead-time reduction through innovative supplier management techniques.
Performs other related duties as required and assigned.
A bachelor’s degree in Business, or relevant subject area, and/or equivalent experience. MBA a plus.
Minimum of 6 years of combined inventory, purchasing, supply chain and/or business and operations experience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to customer service.
Three plus years experience supervising multiple reports and controlling materials/purchasing activities.
Professional Certifications from ISM and/or ASCM preferred.
Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, Power Point, etc.…)
Made to Manage (M2M) knowledge and proficiency a plus, but not required
Any similar combination of education and experience.
Skills & Abilities:
Thorough working knowledge of purchasing policies, processes and procedures.
Complete knowledge of warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures. (Cycle Count Program)
Extensive knowledge of material work planning and processes and procedures.
ERP utilization inclusive of key reporting metrics. (Open PO’s/ Shortages/Work Order Mgmt./ Receiving/Supplier Metrics)
Strong communication, project management, leadership, interpersonal and strategic skills.

Regular and timely attendance is required
Demonstrated ability to work with frequent interruptions in work flow and constantly changing priorities.
Must be able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time with the ability to move throughout the office or outside manufacturing plant as needed.
Must be able to perform physical activities that require use of fingers, hands and arms, such as sitting, typing, using office equipment and reaching. Some additional physical activities may require walking, stooping, bending, twisting and handling of materials.
Position requires manual dexterity, arm-hand steadiness and a safety-minded individual.
Must have the ability to concentrate on tasks for long periods of time and be able to observe and receive information from all relevant sources.
