The Infection Control Preventionist/ Clinical Trainer ICP/CT is responsible for facilitating a safe environment where risks for infection are identified and minimized for patients, employees and visitors at all NNHS sites. The Infection Control Preventionist acts as a liaison and resource person for Infection Control and is accountable for management of all Infection Control activities by providing environmental and case surveillance, data reporting, data analysis, practice consult and developing interventions aimed at the reduction of healthcare-associated infections in patients, members, and staff.
The ICP/CT is responsible for overseeing the NNHSC infection control program and staying current on all infection control procedures and methods needed to ensure the organization is compliant with CDC and Joint Commission standards designed to ensure the safe delivery of healthcare. This role works closely with the Nursing Director to promote positive health outcomes and limit the risks associated with healthcare delivery. The ICP/CT is responsible for designing and implementing curriculum and ensuring all relevant staff are trained on infection control procedures and policy.
The ICP/CT acts as the primary source for training nursing staff, under the direction of the Director of Nursing and training other clinical staff as needed.
A significant part of the role relates to planning and implementing continuing education programs and organizational development across the organization.
The ICP/CT may assist in managing and directing the clinical services of the centers and collaborates with the Director of Nursing/Clinic Manager in helping to plan, develop and evaluate the services.
The ICP/CT can expect to travel and work at all NNHSC sites
This role leads the role assignments and data requirements that are in alignment with the Patient Centered Medical Home Standards, and participate in all Patient Centered Medical Home efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintains and acquires knowledge related to infection control for all NNHSC needs and stays current in this knowledge.
Utilizes and assess sources to stay current in infections control procedures and methods.
Writes or assists in writing infection control policies and advises the organization in policy revisions.
Is expert in Joint Commission standards related to infection control and promotes organizational compliance by: Training staff, conducting competencies, conducting in-services and presentations, ensuring clinical areas have required materials related to infection control
Assists in preparations for site visits
Writes or assists in writing reports, and gather data needed for reports or presentations related to infection control.
Communicates effectively and regularly with the DON about all matters related to infection control with timely notification of issues.
Assists in conducting infection control competencies
Trains nursing staff (including medical assistants) as directed by the DON. This includes training in all skills needed to maintain competencies and elevate the level of care provided.
Conducts clinical competencies as instructed but the DON.
Conducts and helps design tools for needed audits.
Assists DON in other dates as needed
Monitors department data and makes recommendations for improvements as directed by the Director of Nursing.
Organizes and performs work effectively and efficiently.
Assist with developing and communicate innovations to department leadership and works collaboratively with other department members to implement appropriate performance improvement processes as a response to trend analysis.
Monitor findings from patient care quality/safety assessment activities, including recognition of sentinel events and marker organisms for immediate review an investigation.
Actively participate on committees whose purpose supports the role of infection prevention, and present relevant data to appropriate committee or department.
Establish a working relationship with county, state and federal regulatory agencies
through timely, accurate reporting of mandatory Healthcare Associated Infection’s (HAI’s) and other significant patient conditions/diseases also joins/ received information from the Health Action Network (HAN).
Assess healthcare personnel/environment for compliance with infection control policies and procedures by conducting infection control and interdepartmental rounds, evaluation and review of medical equipment and supplies; including cleaning, sterilization and disinfection techniques throughout the organization.
Perform Infection Control Risk Assessments
Participate in facility-wide Emergency Preparedness activities related to infection control measures relating to communicable disease outbreaks.
Develop and maintain competency/current knowledge base through peer networking, active membership in professional organizations, use of internet resources, published literature, educational meetings, seminars and workshops.
Serve as key educator to staff, patients and families regarding infection control policies and procedures and is a facilitator in addressing and correcting identified problem within the organization and all clinical sites.
Maintain current CPR certification.
Participates in site Huddles as needed.
Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Routinely checks equipment to insure proper functioning.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Assists with ordering supplies for infection control activities.
Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing with minimum of 2 years in an ambulatory care setting.
Required Licensure and/or Certification: Current License in the State of Illinois & CPR
