Provides responsible and complex administrative and research management support for Chemical Engineering’s Biotechnology Training Program and Grants, recommending goals, assessing feasibility and ongoing performance & providing day-to-day oversight of administrative & operational functions.
Exercises independent judgment and initiative when assisting PIs in overall research management. This position requires strong organization skills and involves working with graduate students, postdoctoral fellows as well as research staff.
**This is a one year term appointment. Opportunity for renewal will be based on available funding.
Manages day to day operations of Biotechnology Training Grant
Ensures that program/project mission, values, guidelines, policies & procedures are implemented & maintained.
Manages design and development of program databases; compiles & analyzes data; prepares reports.
Reviews processes and recommends changes to incorporate state-of-the-art technology as appropriate into administrative, recruitment, marketing, and educational components.
Identifies service improvement opportunities that will better enable program/project to achieve its goals and objectives.
Budgets & Financial
Participates in budget preparation for Biotechnology Training Grant.
Maintains budget & associated analysis & reports.
Processes transfer &/or appropriation charges & may balance &/or close accounts.
Reconciles standard budget & payroll information ensuring that appropriate sponsored accounts are charged.
Prepares payroll journals to enter or correct funding of salary from sponsored projects.
Prepares and coordinates signatures on 90 day letters required when transactions are not timely.
Makes budgetary projections for staff support and other expenses.
Enters individual &/or summary of transactions into journals &/or general ledger or other NU enterprise system.
Communication, Outreach & Recruitment:
Coordinates with McCormick Marketing to develop coordinated, consistent marketing and brand messages.
Updates the Biotechnology Training Program website.
Incorporates social media and networking into program/project aspects as appropriate.
Coordinates programming, educational, student, alumni, workshops, meetings, etc. including speakers, agendas, etc. for the Biotechnology grant.
Develops plans and arranges meetings, workshops, events, etc. designed to exchange information, promote research objectives, and to build internal and external relationships within NU.
Ensures that event details including communication, venues, presenters, travel arrangements, materials, refreshments and technology are arranged and completed in an appropriate and timely manner.
Grants & Contracts:
Organizes proposal, renewal and resubmission applications.
Works with the ChBE Research Administrator and Research Administrators from other departments to help gather the necessary information for the renewal of the Biotechnology Training Program grant.
Completes post-award administration of research grants &/or contracts.
Reviews account establishment.
Participates in account close out activities.
Monitors project under spending and overspending.
Communicates with PI, other unit and project personnel, OSR, ASRSP and/or sponsor accordingly.
Provides data to Research Administrator needed for the preparation of interim and final financial and technical progress reports for the Biotechnology Training Program grant.
Resolves standard & routine compliance problems & issues involving associated NU policies & practices; local, state, federal, agency & sponsor rules, regulations & requirements regarding grant &/or contract administration.
Maintains confidential records and files.
Ensures compliance with all necessary organizations.
Prepares documentation as required.

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree; OR appropriate combination of education and experience.
1 year program/project administration or other relevant experience.
