The Clinical Research Center Operations Director oversees the research and operations of a dedicated clinical trials unit at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. The research portfolio includes, but is not limited to, treatment trials with investigational products.
The Operations Director is responsible for implementing a staffing and operating model to support the research conducted within the unit and has oversight of space coordination, resource utilization and planning, policies and financial management of the Clinical Research Center. The position will work in partnership with a dedicated Medical Director and will manage a team of 5-8 staff, including a unit manager with a Midlevel clinical degree.
Define and operationalize policies, procedures and quality assurance systems for the clinical trial unit; partner with institutional resources to align with existing clinic and research departments
In partnership with the Medical Director, lead the Oversight Committee to ensure trial feasibility and alignment with institutional goals
Partner with scientific, administrative and clinic collaborators to provide visibility, leverage available resources, expand services, and assure the appropriate level of oversight and engagement with key stakeholders
Create and maintain a clinical trial unit staffing model that can flex to support variable trial activities and participant, and effectively integrates investigators study staff and contract support as needed
Coordinate space and equipment planning and utilization, evaluating resource needs with the introduction of each new trial, overseeing the acquisition of space and equipment, anticipating and planning for future needs
Implement and oversee financial management structure and systems to perform trial budgeting and billing, and fiscal management of the unit
Serve as resource liaison, representing the clinical trial unit to faculty leadership, other Center departments, funding sources, subcontractors, vendors, affiliated individuals or institutions, and outside organizations
Define and and maintain performance, utilization and financial dashboards; report key measures to leadership identifying risk, and opportunities for growth and improvements
Minimum five (5) years experience managing clinical trial operations
Strong understanding of the regulatory environment surrounding clinical trials
Prior experience implementing multi-disciplinary teams
Sustained, proven ability to think analytically, problem solve and use independent judgment
Excellent communication (written and oral), customer service, collaboration, problem solving and interpersonal skills
Superior presentation and organizational skills with an attention to detail mindset
Proven ability to work with a diverse group of stakeholders, including scientific, clinical and administrative
