WittKieffer has been retained by UC San Diego Health (UC San Diego Health) to identify the organization's next Chief Compliance and Privacy Officer.
UC San Diego Health is one of the five academic medical centers within the 10-campus University of California System. These medical centers comprise the fourth largest health care delivery system in the state and train nearly 50% of the state's medical students and residents. UCSD Health is comprised of three hospitals operating under one license which include UC San Diego Medical Center, Jacobs Medical Center, and Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center. The system is home to Moores Cancer Center which is the region's only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Care Center and Shiley Eye Institute, a multi-specialty vision center with the region's only facility dedicated to children. The system also has ambulatory clinics located throughout the county to deliver care to the entire region.
The CCPO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer of UC San Diego Health and the Vice Chancellor of UC San Diego Health Sciences. S/he will also have a dotted line reporting relationship to the Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance and Audit Officer with the University of California Office of the President. The CCPO will be responsible for developing and overseeing an integrated, enterprise wide compliance and privacy program to support UC San Diego Health. S/he will serve as a strategic business partner dedicated to managing and reducing potential risk and exposure to external regulatory review and scrutiny. The CCPO will play a critical role in proactively developing and optimizing relationships throughout the organization, building a culture that actively seeks input from compliance to further optimize UC San Diego Health Sciences’ day-to-day operations.
The ideal candidate will be a highly engaged and collaborative executive with extensive compliance experience within healthcare, preferably within an academic medical center. Candidates should be knowledgeable of all elements of corporate compliance and be knowledgeable of federal and state health services regulations, including Medicare and Medicaid, HIPAA and state privacy rules, EMTALA and other external agencies and businesses.
