The Office of the Executive Vice Provost provides intellectual leadership and coordination across the University in all areas of academic and faculty affairs. Reporting directly to the Executive Vice Provost and working closely with other senior administrators, deans, and faculty members across the University, the Assistant Vice Provost of Faculty Affairs is tasked with the authority to oversee a range of faculty affairs activities and programs that contribute to the universityâs academic community, improve faculty life, and have consequences for the universityâs national reputation and rankings.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
The ideal candidate will have the following competencies and personal characteristics:
Addresses strategic issues that affect all areas of faculty affairs. Works closely with colleagues within the schools and across the university on issues that address faculty priorities
Draft and manage employment agreements, conflict of interest cases, international appointments and other special legal projects
Act as liaison with the Office of the General Counsel and various other divisions on compliance and regulatory issues such as federal funding, employment regulations, wages and salaries
Implement USC Faculty Handbook and deliver policy interpretations across the university Individual must be willing to work flexible hours; some nights and weekends required
Provide content oversight on all full-time and part-time faculty contracts. Supervise and evaluate Manager of Policies and Procedures
Consultation and case management of faculty accommodation requests with Disability Services and Programs
Oversee emergency operations and business continuity plan for the Office of the Executive Vice Provost
Active participant in Office of the Provost data team. Work closely with Provost Faculty Affairs Data Analyst and Programmer on managing and utilizing faculty data
Represent Provost Faculty Affairs on campus committees. Supervise special projects as needed
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The University reserves the right to add or change duties at any time.
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education
Minimum Experience: 5 years, combined education/experience as substitute for minimum experience
Minimum Field of Expertise: Must understand higher education from the academic perspective. Experience interpreting policy for operations. Experience in management of complex projects, analyzing and providing recommendations based on such data, and administration.Â Experience supervising others. Experience working with large-scale data systems, such as Workday.
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in exercising sound judgment and discretion, superior writing and communication skills, experience in higher education administration, and familiarity with the structure and format of academic programs and faculty affairs.
Preferred Education: Master's degree
Preferred Experience: Seven years work experience
