Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution is currently searching for a Manager / Sr. Manager - Information Services (IS) Security to manage all cyber and electronic information security at the Institution. This is a regular, full-time, exempt position, and is eligible for benefits.
Reporting directly to the Deputy Director & Vice President of Research, and working closely with the Sr. Director of Information Services, the Manager / Sr. Manager - IS Security through matrix reporting is responsible for management and oversight of implementation, coordination, operation and remediation of internal and external cyber security and compliance. This is achieved with a small staff of subject matter experts and service providers.
The internal working titles for this position could beat a Manager or Sr. Manager level, and the final level of the position will be determined commensurate with the selected candidate's level of education & experience.
Manage WHOIs IS Security team and coordinate its actions with other teams in IS.
Establish, document, manage and monitor the Institutions cybersecurity program and policies while maintaining compliance with regulatory agencies.
Develop, manage and operate the Institutions cybersecurity perimeter, including firewalls, intrusion detection and analysis systems, and managed services.
Act as necessary to prevent cyber intrusions or respond to them while coordinating with other security related areas within the Institution.
Diagnose and repair information security problems on computer systems, including issues arising from viruses, malware and improper system configuration.
Inform and train WHOI community about computer and information security threats and appropriate safety measures. Develop and recommend policies and guidelines for secure computing practices and information protection.
Maintain end-to-end responsibility for authentication and Identity Access Management (IAM) systems and processes. Work with other IS staff to operate, manage and ensure compliance to policies and best practices.
Advise and work with all Information Systems teams and other WHOI staff to maintain a good overall information security environment.
Work with the Security Office to satisfy DoD security requirements and compliance including CUI (NIST 800-171, CMMC), and classified computing.
Maintain good working relationships with users, management, and regulatory agencies including DCSA, DoD, DHS, and FBI.
Maintain a working knowledge of system functions, security policies, technical security safeguards, and operational security measures.
Sr. Manager level:
Provide strategic consultation to DDVPR and Sr. Director of IT related to WHOIs cybersecurity infrastructure.
Keep current with emerging technologies in IS Security, and make recommendations to leadership for program improvements
Education & Experience
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent plus at least 10 years relevant experience including staff management is required
Extensive experience diagnosing and resolving computer security problems on Windows, MacOS and Linux operating systems
Extensive experience monitoring, detecting and remediating network and Internet based cyber threats
Training in information security procedures and methodologies.Advanced training in cybersecurity, intrusion detection and analysis is desirable
Experience and ability to handle sensitive information in a confidential manner.
Solid understanding of local and Internet networks, firewalls, DNS, SIEM, IAM and cyber security operations and procedures
Ability to lead, manage and direct small teams and vendors working on security projects or issues, and deliver on project and task related deadlines
Strong ability to present and communicate both in writing and verbally with both technical and non-technical personnel about computer and security matters
Ability to obtain a DoD security clearance at level Secret or above
