Based in the Division of Infectious Diseases at Boston Children's Hospital, the Precision Vaccines Program (PVP) fosters international collaboration to characterize distinct vaccine-induced immune responses of vulnerable populations such as the very young and the elderly to inform development of novel vaccines tailored to protect them. Program members have domain expertise in vaccinology, clinical trials, immunology, molecular biology, biostatistics, bioinformatics, and powerful big data ("OMIC") approaches.
This Research Administrative Manager will be responsible for:
Supervising staff; including hiring, training, performance management, goal setting, and salary administration, work priorities and quality.
Managing/performing pre-award functions such as assisting Principal Investigators in completion of grant proposals including budget development, drafting administrative sections, collecting materials and obtaining institutional reviews/approval.
Managing/performing post-award functions such as allocation of research labor costs across multiple funding sources consistent with level of research effort. Coordinating departmental research effort reporting and ensures timely submission of certified effort reports. May approve purchase requisitions in compliance with sponsor and institutional guidelines. Using institutional resources to maintain department records of grant awards and agreements.
May assist research staff in identifying sources of funding by maintaining knowledge of agency programs and disseminating information to staff.
Partnering with appropriate central offices to represent the needs of the research faculty and resolve complex problems.
Analyzing monthly expenses and overall status of each grant, processing necessary corrections through appropriate channels.
Reviewing departmental processes and procedures to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles, federal regulations, hospital policies, etc.. Conducting spot checks or audits as appropriate to ensure departmental systems are adequate.
Working with the Department Administrators and Principal Investigators to develop annual budgets and forecasts. Reconciling monthly expense variances between hospital financial systems and budgets. Forecasting over/under expenditures of funds and provides regular status reports to the Principal Investigator. Performing other financial analyses as needed.
Ensuring timely renewal of grant and subcontracts and/or orderly closeout of completed sponsored activities.
Attending meetings, institutional and/or industry training/conferences to keep skills current and knowledge up-to-date on sponsor regulations, hospital policies, and emerging technologies.
To qualify, you must have:
Bachelor's degree and 5 years of Research Administration experience required or 7 years of Research Administration experience may substitute for degree. Masters preferred.
A demonstrated understanding of federal policies and cost principles in order to ensure the proper stewardship of sponsored funds.
Strong verbal, and written communication skills in order to effectively resolve issues and to mediate fair solutions.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and database applications.
Ability to independently seek out answers from the appropriate federal compliance and regulatory resource(s) and/or hospital technical expert(s).
Ability to supervise staff
