About the Job The University of Minnesota Fairview COVID testing lab is a CLIA certified laboratory that focuses on diagnostic SARS-nCoV2 testing and is part of the state initiative for COVID testing. Laboratory services include specimen accessioning, viral inactivation, RNA isolation, PCR testing, and sample repository. As testing changes to meet demand the lab may also provide collection kit production, method validation, correlation services, result calling, interaction with state public health officials and the Minnesota Department of Health.
Responsibilities • Perform laboratory testing on blood, urine and other body fluids according to written procedures. Receives, test request and processes specimens. • Perform DNA and RNA extraction, dilutions and plating. • Evaluate test results for accuracy and takes appropriate action. • Perform quality control, calibration and maintenance procedures on equipment and analyzers and documents actions appropriately. • Exercise critical thinking to recognize problems and resolve appropriately. • Order, receive and maintain supplies and inventory. • Follow established biological, chemical and physical safety procedures. • Comply with laboratory quality assurance programs and regulatory agency requirements.
Hiring for 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials.
Required: • BA/BS in a science related field (or a combination of education and experience to total 4 years) • Eligible for ASCP MLS, MT, or MB certification and obtain certification within 1 year of hire. • Excellent attention to details • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred: • Experience with DNA and RNA procedures
