At Stony Brook Medicine, the Patient Access Sr. Manager - Emergency Dept. & OP Hospital Services will have primary responsibility for the coordination and day to day operation of the Emergency Department, Hospital Admitting, Ambulatory Services Unit and Heart Center.
The incumbent will be responsible for overseeing and directing the daily activities of Patient Access ED and Hospital outpatient supervisors and staff including monitoring operational standards in admitting, insurance verification, registration, financial counseling and cashiering. The Senior Manager also proposes strategies for operational improvement, implementation of new protocols, develops operational compliance measures and performance metrics and supports the development and motivation of employees.
Candidate will exhibit ability to effectively manage competing priorities and work independently in a rapidly changing environment.
Supervisory management of ED registrations and Hospital Patient Access Services for onsite areas including Heart Center, ASU, Radiology and Admitting Office. Ensures accuracy and integrity of all registrations for financial clearance and completeness to support billing of clean claims in a timely manner. Supports ED registration quality audits are performed in Real Time.
Works with supervisors, lead staff and first line staff as necessary to maintain compliance with protocols to ensure consistent registration processes; ensuring data collection, regulatory compliance standards, patient safety and satisfaction goals are met. Support departmental goals for Point Of Service cash collections and past due balances. Proactively work to reduce self pay bad debt.
Oversight and management of all area work schedules to ensure appropriate staffing on all shifts. Monitor patient volumes and flow throughout the day, adjusting Patient Access staffing assignments as needed. Work with staff and leaders in all areas to coordinate timely patient registration flow.
Set KPIs/Standards for Registration Benchmarks and measure standards against workflow throughout areas of responsibility.
Duties may include the following but are not limited to:
Responsible for timely supervisory staff performance programs and evaluations.
Routinely evaluate, develop and improve process to eliminate redundancy
Collaborate with QA & Training to identify opportunities to reduce denials by insuring complete, bill-ready registrations.
Support Asst. Director to ensure Patient Access Quality, Safety, Compliance and Revenue Cycle goals and all other duties as assigned are met.
Completes other duties as assigned by Director, Patient Access Services to support Patient Access Services, Compliance, Safety, Quality and Revenue Cycle goals.
5-7 years supervisor / management in Patient Access or related field with experience in monitoring supervisors and others in a management setting.
Ability to measure operational statistical metrics as well as working knowledge / experience in registration and financial services in a Hospital , or Health Care Ambulatory setting.
Demonstrated ability to create a positive workplace culture that fosters respect, motivation and commitment to quality goals .
Flexibility to work alternative shifts (including nights or weekends as warranted) to monitor 24/7 ED staff, workflow, etc. (hours generally Monday - Friday 10a.m -6:30 p.m)
Master's degree, preferred.
